Caravan Spread: a special layout designed for The Gypsy Palace

My dear friend, Steph Engert gifted this spread for us.

After the first shuffle, go through the deck from the bottom up and find the first Ace and note its suit/direction. This suit is the root issue, the colouring of the spread. The card is then returned to the deck and you shuffle again as You wish.

The first part of the spread are the wheels of your caravan: four cards for the four elements/directions beginning in the East and going counterclockwise to North. The Four Wheels in the reading have to be considered together! What elements, dynamics keeps your caravan on the move?

Now choose a card which represents “You”, your centre in the middle of your caravan. Who are You in this position?

Than you take the next card (your sixth) and this is your “Horse”, the driving force which will take you on.

You draw another three cards and put them above and before your caravan, because these are your guides from above – the Sun in the day, light, rationality, the moon in the night, emotions, intuitions, and the stars as your spiritual guide, the guidance of a higher spirit.

For travellers, it is important to determine the basic direction to take. For this reason, after the first shuffle on the question to be asked, you should go through the deck from the bottom up and find the first Ace and note its suit/direction.

This suit is the root issue or the “colouring”/atmosphere of the spread. If the querent gives you no question you may determine by the suit to what the question relates. The card is then returned to the deck and you shuffle anew and cut as you usually do.

When you are ready you lay out the spread:

The first part are four cards for the four elements/directions which stand for the wheels of your caravan beginning in the East and going counterclockwise to the South, the West and the North. The Four Wheels have to be considered together

You decide then, in which “direction” you want to head your caravan. If it relates to a location you may take this literally. For your chosen direction you take the next card (your fifth) and this is your “Horse”, the driving force which will take you on.

You draw another three cards and put them above and before your horse, because these are your guides from above – the Sun in the day, the moon in the night and the stars as your spiritual guide.

The Sun guiding the travel in the Day ( light, rationality)

The Moon guiding the travel in the Night ( emotion, dreams)

The Stars – the guidance of the higher spirit
